Ford celebrates sales success

Fords are selling strong. According to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Ford has sold 176,792 cars this year. What’s more the firm sold 18,442 cars last month, meaning that 12.1 per cent of retail car sales wore the Blue Oval badge. The success is partly down to demand for the Fiesta, which is the best selling car in the UK this year, backed up by the Focus which takes second place in the overall chart. GM Adds Nearly 7,000 Jobs

After the American automotive crisis of 2009, it appears that there may be greener pastures in the near future. General Motors’ Vice President, Steve Girsky, said in a radio interview yesterday that since last year's bankruptcy filing, GM has added 6,900 jobs in the United States. Autoblog points out that GM has also hired approximately 2,800 workers at its Canadian operations as well. Toyota and Tesla to Collaborate on Electric RAV4

Tesla Motors Inc. and Toyota Motor Corp. have announced an agreement to jointly develop an electric version of the RAV4 compact SUV with a planned market date of 2012.
Tesla has produced a prototype of the vehicle, which is currently undergoing tests. Additional development models will be produced later this year.

Toyota Attempts to Blame Drivers for Unintended Acceleration Incidents

According to the results of an internal investigation by Toyota, in "virtually all" the cases of unintended acceleration that led to a global recall of more than 8 million vehicles, the motorist pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

Toyota to Recall 2010 Lexus HS 250h

Due to a potential for excessive fuel leakage following rear-impact crashes, Toyota Motor Corp. will recall approximately 17,000 Lexus HS 250h vehicles from the 2010 model year. The problem was discovered in tests where the rear end of the vehicle was struck at speeds of approximately 50 mph during federal safety tests conducted annually. Honda Recalls 167000 Acura Cars over Fire Hazard

Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 167,000 Acura TSX cars to fix power steering hoses that could deteriorate and cause a fire under the hood. The recall, announced Friday, involves TSXs from the 2004-2008 model years.
